SC to Sebi: Start selling Sahara group properties to get bail money for Subrata Roy
The
Supreme Court Tuesday asked the Sebi to start selling properties of
Sahara conglomerate for generating bail money required for Subrata Roy’s
release. Recording Sahara group’s inability to sell its properties, the
court said the market regulator should devise a suitable mechanism for
sale of the properties so that Rs 10,000 crore is finally deposited with
the Sebi as a pre-condition set by the apex court to secure release of
Roy and two other directors who are imprisoned since March 2014. A bench
led by Chief Justice TS Thakur decided to direct Sebi for selling
Sahara’s properties after it was informed that a list of 86 properties,
which according to Sahara’s lawyers were worth Rs 40,000 crore, had been
handed over to the regulator to show the group’s bonafide.

for Centre tomorrow in Nainital High Court before the double bench,
challenging the order it gave for floor test in the Uttarakhand
Assembly. The Central Government will challenge the Nainital High
Court's order directing a floor test in the Uttarakhand state assembly
on March 31. The Nainital High Court today ordered a floor test in the
Assembly to determine which party enjoys a majority and stayed
President's Rule, which was imposed on Sunday.

Three Muslim youth thrashed for not saying 'Jai Mata Ki'

Delhi, Mar. 30 (ANI): Three Muslim youth- Dilkash, Mohammad Ajmal and
Naeem-- were allegedly beaten up by unidentified men at a park in outer
Delhi's Begampur area, as they refused to chant pro-religious and
national slogans such as 'Jai Mata Ki' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. Another
victim Mohammad Ajmal said they were not given a chance to say
anything, adding that their skull caps were thrown and crushed with
feet. "They asked us to say 'Jai Mata Ki'.

SIT will be strengthened to probe fires, says CM Fadnavis
Chief
Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Monday the special investigation team
(SIT) would be further strengthened to probe the recurring fires,
besides violation of norms, at the Deonar dumping ground in Mumbai. BJP
MP Kirit Somaiya has demanded setting up of a task force to investigate
the conspiracy angle and “rampant corruption” in the matter.

MLA Ganesh Joshi, who was arrested for allegedly attacking a police
horse during a protest against the government here on March 14, on
Monday said that he had snatched a cane from a policeman because the
police were indulging in lathicharge on party workers. Joshi, who is out
on bail, also alleged that former Chief Minister Harish Rawat hatched
the conspiracy to implicate him in the horse attack case. Woh haath tod

Bangladesh court rejects petition to scrap Islam as a state religion
Dhaka,
Mar. 28 (ANI): The Dhaka High Court has rejected a petition by secular
activists to scrap Islam as the state religion. The court was hearing a
writ petition, initially filed 28 years ago, which challenged the
constitutional amendment that gave Islam the status of a state religion,
reports the Daily Star. The move to make Islam the state religion had
come during the dictatorship of Gen. H M Ershad, who had inserted a
section in the eighth amendment to the constitution on June 9, 1988.

Railway Recruitment Exam: Railway board eases rules for married women
AFTER
INITIALLY stopping women candidates from taking the Railway Recruitment
Board (RRB) exam over lack of identity proof, the railway officials on
Tuesday decided to take a more lenient approach towards married women,
citing the Prime Minister's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign as a
reason for the change in stance. With this move, scores of women
candidates--even without valid identity proof--were allowed to enter
exam halls at 26 different centres across Pune by merely signing a
self-declared identity form. The RRB is conducting the exam for various
posts like commercial apprentice, traffic apprentice,
enquiry-cum-reservation clerk, goods guard, junior accountant,
assistant-cum-typist, senior clerk-cum-typist, assistant station master,
traffic assistant, senior time-keeper, among others.
