President Muhammadu Buhari speaking in Paris
In a statement issued by spokesman Garba Shehu on Wednesday, the president responded to the subject of continuing reports of attacks by "herdsmen" on communities across the country, and again assured Nigerians of his administration's continued commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in all parts of the country.
“Acting on the President's directive, the  Inspector-General of Police and heads of the nation's other security agencies are already taking urgent steps to fully investigate the attacks, apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the spokesman said.
He added that ending the recent upsurge of attacks on communities by   herdsmen reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons is now a priority on the Buhari Administration's agenda for enhanced national security, and that he Armed Forces and Police have clear instructions to take all necessary action to stop the carnage.
Mr. Shehu further stated that in keeping with the President's directive, the Inspector-General of Police, the General Officer Commanding the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army and the Director of the Department of State Security in Enugu State have visited Ukapbi Nimbo to personally oversee investigations into the attack on the community and ongoing efforts to apprehend the culprits.
He disclosed that President Buhari was scheduled to meet with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi later in the day to receive further briefing on the attack on Ukpabi Nimbo and discuss additional measures to forestall similar attacks and restore public confidence.
“The President urges all Nigerians to remain calm and assured of his administration's readiness to deploy all required personnel and resources to remove this new threat to the collective security of the nation,” the presidency concluded.

Rumour that I abandoned my wife nearly took everything from me – Nollywood actor, Akiyesi

Popular Nollywood actor, Solomon Akiyesi, during the week went down memory lane, blasting those who he said were behind the hateful news that almost ruined his career.
Akiyesi took to his Facebook page to blast his haters.
He wrote, “How could I have forgotten the anniversary of 13th of February when on that day, three years ago, I was accused of abandoning my ‘pregnant’ wife in Port Harcourt to marry my ‘mistress’ in Lagos. It was a day hell was let loose and the world fell at my feet in vituperation.
“It was a day the gates of hell was opened wide and I saw tender birds in my life become roaring lions.”

It was rumoured three years ago that the actor abandoned his 8-month pregnant wife, Lilian Akiyesi in Port Harcourt and came to Lagos to marry his mistress.

He further lamented, “13th February 2013, was a day when the opportunity came for dogs who have been yearning to bite my flesh, to grab all they could off me… And exploiting their uniformed profession, they took it all from me. Home, wife, daughter and all.

“And then, in their warped reasoning that wearing a pair of smelling khaki uniform means you have the power of life and death, they made attempt at my dignity. But that was where God stepped in to scream: ‘Touch not my anointed!’ And then they have remained disillusioned confused, mesmerised, weak in the knees and brain ever.”

Fear of Embarrassment: Goodluck Jonathan Cancels California Speech, Feigns Illness

Former Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan, who has been in the United States since last week, canceled a scheduled keynote speech at the Africa Peace Awards Dinner organized bythe Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution at the California State University, Sacramento in order to avoid embarrassment, SaharaReporters has learned.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan
Mr. Jonathan’s former Special Assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri, spoke on his behalf, explaining that the former President had taken ill.
SaharaReporters has however learned that Mr. Jonathan, who has been travelling across the US to associate himself with international NGOs, feigned his illness to avoid embarrassment by protests planned against him. It will be recalled that Mr. Jonathan, while in Newark, New Jersey, met with a human trafficking NGO and made remarks at the Mayor’s office.
One local California newspaper, The Sacramento Bee, confirmed the details of the speech, noting, “Mr. Jonathan’s appearance had stirred controversy because of Nigeria’s anti-gay law, which punishes not only gay marriage but public support of it.”
Mr. Jonathan has been under pressure since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested his cousin, Robert Azibaola, in connection with allegations over an oilpipeline job estimated at over $40 million.
The commission has been following leads between those corruption allegations and his cousin, Mr. Jonathan.

Bukola Saarki News

The publisher of Sahara Reporters has accused Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of cloning his newspaper and stealing his brand identities to create fake versions of his website.

Sahara Reporters, a U.S.-based news website, with special focus on Nigeria, said it believed the Nigerian senate president, who is facing charges of false asset declaration, is masterminding the proliferation of imitation of cloned versions of the newspaper aimed at circulating lies to the public while disguising as Sahara Reporters.

The publisher, Omoyele Sowore, said his team had so far blocked three fake websites since January 2015. He said the faking websites were blocked from Google, Web4Africa and Twitter.
“The only one left is a Facebook account,” Mr. Sowore said.

The outstanding fake account is named Sahara Reporters Rescue.
Checks by PREMIUM TIMES showed that it had assumed the branding features of the original Sahara Reporters with insignificant modifications.

Mr. Sowore said Sahara Reporter Rescue had succeeded in deceiving about 30 thousand people while circulating contents praising and defending Mr. Saraki.

Its bio is an exact copy-and-paste version of the original Sahara Reporters.
“I know Saraki is directly behind it,” Mr. Sowore said, explaining that he was only concerned the public might mistake the page for the original Sahara Reporters.
Identity theft is an emerging fraud in the Nigerian cyberspace, mainly used by politicians to clone digital identities of critical media house with the aim of using the clone to pass down propagandist inform, faking endorsement.
It is a form of cyber attack that utilizes deception, rather than the brute force of DDoS attacks.
PREMIUM TIMES was a victim of similar attacks. The latest is by individuals linked to the current governor of River State, Nyesom Wike.
While many other digital businesses treat identity theft with urgency and seriousness, Facebook is notorious for being slow in checking the crime.
Facebook’s clumsy reporting process and policy make fighting clones and replicas almost impossible for victims.

The suspected pirate
The suspected pirate is Osinuga Oriola Mcleish, a blogger and member of the Kwara All Progressives Congress. Although Mr. Osinuga denies the crime, investigations by PREMIUM TIMES traced his digital footprints on the downed websites and the fake Sahara Reporters Facebook Page.
“I don’t know anything about it,” Mr. Osinuga said before hanging up during an interview.
Mr. Saraki’s new media team also denied involvement in the crime.
“Sahara Reporters is not that important for me to waste my time on,” Bankole Omishore, a new media aide to the Senate President told PREMIUM TIMES. “We no longer monitor Sahara Reporters.”
Mr. Omishore said Sahara Reporters had been critical of his boss, claiming the newspaper was hired to promote propaganda to sack Mr. Saraki.
The publisher of Sahara Reporters denies any personal grievances with the senate president, saying , “I only have beef with thieves.”
“I’ve been covering Saraki since 2005 with the same tenacity I covered (James) Ibori,” he said. “I know very well he (Saraki) has stolen a lot of money and should not be Nigeria’s number three man.”

Van Gaal: The Wembley verdict

Louis van Gaal spoke to MUTV, BBC and in his press conference after Manchester United's thrilling Emirates FA Cup semi-final win over Everton. Here are the key points from those interviews...
Reflections on the match
It’s fantastic when you see the joy in the eyes of the players. But also for the fans, because I think we deserved to reach the final. We were the better team in the first half and had so many chances - we could have finished it much earlier. It was an exciting game for the neutral fans and we are lucky that we scored in the last minute, but we deserved to win. I told [Chris] Smalling he was a lucky guy because now we can smile! He played a very good match. Both teams showed a lot of passion and will to win, so I’m very happy that we were the winners.
Pressure of a semi-final
I think the pressure was also for Everton. I think tomorrow when you see the other semi-final, the pressure is very high for every player because every player wants to play in the final, so it is always in my eyes the same. It is not different.
On matchwinner Anthony Martial
He could have scored in the first half when he was in the same situation, so I told him at half-time to shoot low into the corner – and he did that! It was a fantastic finish. I think he can do much better [in the future] because I see a lot of things that he can still improve and he shall improve. Only by training and by playing can you improve. Also, when you are playing at a higher level then you improve. When you are older you know all the things shall happen again. Then you have experience and you can decide much better in the same situation as before.
Can Martial become like Cole or van Nistelrooy?
I don't think that he is a striker; he is more of a wing player, but maybe in the future. But I don't think so - he is a different type of player to van Nistelrooy and the other examples of United strikers.
On goalscorer Marouane Fellaini
Fellaini is a player who wants to perform what we have agreed and I like that. He is also good with his head at set-plays – both for and against us – because we have a small team and he can help us.
On David De Gea
Yesterday we had an exercise with penalties. 20 penalties we have taken - Sergio Romero saved one and David De Gea zero. But today was the most important!
Will Wayne Rooney stay in midfield?
It is dependable on where my players continue. I have explained it also last week. At this moment I think that [Marcus] Rashford does a very good job in the striker's positon and now Wayne can contribute to the team more in midfield. I have seen today a great Wayne in midfield. It is not the first time he has played in midfield. Last year he also played in midfield, then your colleagues said he should play in the strikers' position. Maybe you remember that?
Prospect of an FA Cup final
I like it very much because as a player, manager and staff member, you do everything to win a title and we are very close now.

A PETITION SEEKING FOR AN ORDER TOWIND UP BELBOP NIGERIA Ltd, oil company

One Baker Hughes Group has approached a Federal High Court in Lagos with a petition seeking an order to wind up Belbop Nigeria Limited, an oil company said to be owned by Nigerian businessman, Mike Adenuga.
In the petition filed before Justice Babs Kuewumi, Baker Hughes Group, which described itself as an American international oil and gas services conglomerate, claimed that Belbop is indebted to it to the tune of $12, 092,531.66.
The debt, the petitioner claimed, was the payment due to it for the services it rendered to Belbop for the development and operation of an oil block.
Counsel for Baker Hughes Group, Yusuf Kadiri, claimed that Belbop awarded a contract numbered BEL/HH/2009 to his client in 2009 for the provision of “directional drilling, MWD/LWD services and supply of drilling fluids and drilling bits, Logging cabin and surface acquisition system.”
But Kadiri claimed that though his client “duly discharged its obligations under the contract and rendered requisite services for the benefit of the respondent (Belbop), and issued invoices for the services rendered, the respondent failed to pay despite repeated demands.”
Kadiri claimed that Belbop is indebted to Baker Hughes Company Limited to the tune of US$9, 440, 021.20, and BJ Services Company Limited to the tune of US$2, 652, 510.46. Both companies are subsidiaries of Baker Hughes Group.
Already the petitioner had secured an order of interim injunction from Justice Kuewumi, barring the respondent and its privies from dissipating the assets of Belbop pending the determination of the suit.
In the said order made on April 12, 2016, Justice Kuewumi restrained “the respondent, its directors, staff, management, employees, officers, agents, privies, servants or any other person or group of persons by whatever name so called under the authority of the respondent from alienating, assigning, charging, dissipating, disposing of, dealing, tampering or interfering with assets and properties of Belbop including tangible and intangible assets, and movable and immovable assets, as well as liquid assets, stocks, securities and/or monies wherever found, and in any manner whatsoever pending the hearing and determination of the suit.”
But the judge refused the prayer of the petitioner for an order freezing the bank accounts of Belbop and  appointing the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court as the as the receiver/manager of Belbop to take charge of the entire business operations.
In his ruling, Justice Kuewumi said it was inappropriate to make such an order at this stage in the case.
He also ordered Baker Hughes Company Limited to sign an undertaking that it would pay damages to Belbop if it turned out that the court ought not to have made a restraining injunction against Belbop.
Further hearing in the matter has been adjourned till June 1, 2016.

59 World Leaders Agree Sanctions On

The party appears to be over for public officers in the habit of looting the nation’s treasury.
Muhammadu Buhari
The Federal Government and 59 other nations will in May sign agreement on the sanctions to be imposed on corrupt political and public office holders.
President Muhammadu Buhari will join 59 other world leaders in the United Kingdom to seal the pact by which any of the 60 countries involved would no longer be a “safe haven” for treasury looters.
Some of the sanctions that may be imposed on culprits include:
  • travel restriction or denial of entry visa into the 60 countries;
  • rejection of request for political asylum by corrupt political and public office holders;
  • likely loss of citizenship;
  • no more approval of naturalization for any corrupt person;
  • no establishment of shell companies abroad; and
  • the corrupt will not be allowed to operate foreign accounts in any of the 60 nations.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami, SAN, who spoke exclusively with our correspondent, said the agreement will make it difficult for those stealing public funds in the country to escape abroad or operate slush accounts to stash cash away.
He said: “The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is stepping up the fight against corruption. I am happy to bring to your notice that Nigeria and 59 other countries will enter into an agreement in May on the imposition of international sanctions against corrupt political and public office holders. This will take place at the 2016 international summit on anti-corruption in the UK.
“At the May summit, these 60 countries will agree on some sanctions against those who steal public funds or launder money.
“Some of these measures are travel restriction or denial of entry into the 60 countries; rejection of request for political asylum by corrupt political and public officers; no more approval of  application for naturalization by any corrupt person; and the corrupt will not be allowed to operate foreign accounts  in any of the signatory nation to the pact among others.
“The affected countries will also design ways of sharing intelligence on corrupt officers and money launderers. We will all key into this understanding as part of the global action against corruption.
“With this development, there is no hiding place for any public office holder who steals funds in this country.”
Responding to a question, the AGF said: “The President will deliver a keynote address at the May summit. It all borders on the international appreciation of the anti-corruption agenda of this administration.
“In fact, Nigeria is being considered as the 2017 host of the international summit on anti-corruption.”
In the past few years, politically exposed persons in the country and their cronies have stashed looted funds in the UK, US, UAE, Switzerland, France, Seychelles and the Island of Jersey.
Some of the looted funds include $723 million (about N142.43 billion) repatriated from  Switzerland in the last 10 years; $200b allegedly stashed in UAE; $480m to be released to the Federal Government by US; £22.5 million (N6.18 billion) recovered from Island of Jersey; and about £400b in Europe, Asia and America.
The Swiss government in March confirmed that it had so far returned $723 million (about N142.43 billion) of stolen funds seized from the family of the late former head of state, Sani Abacha, to the Nigerian government in the last 10 years.
The amount excluded the $321million (about N63.24 billion) which the Swiss authorities recently said it was planning to repatriate to Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic Debts, Senator Shehu Sani, said over $200 billion had been hidden in UAE.
He said: “Over $200 billion are stashed away in Dubai alone. This may represent the monies stolen since in the past 20 years.
“I am not talking about estates and bonds and other securities bought with Nigeria’s stolen money.”

1. Dinosaur-Like Turtle

Pic shows: The giant turtle that was going to be cooked, but finally it escaped. Russian social media users are getting excited over this dinosaur-like creature found recently in a local river. With a shell covered in spikes and a bizarre-shaped the creature which one picture is being held up by its tail quickly sparked heated debate over exactly what it was. It was posted online Anastasia Steshina with the comment: "When we saw it, we did not even realize that it was a turtle. It reminded us of a dinosaur." And now the bizarre creature has been identified as a giant turtle normally found in the warm waters of the American south-east, although exactly how it turned up alive on the banks of a river in the Russian Far East is a mystery. Its official name is the alligator snapping turtle – which is the heaviest freshwater turtle in the world – and it was found alongside the Amur River, the world's 10th longest, near the Leninskoye settlement. Pictures of the animal, which has powerful jaws, pointy ridges down its shell, and rough ridged skin like an alligator, were at first branded fake, until a video also appeared showing how local people were trying to make the turtle swim back into the river. Speaking at the beginning of the clip, a woman is heard saying: "Releasing the beast into the wild." A man then carries the turtle closer to the river and then splashes it with water before trying to push it in with his boots. The woman filming the video responds by telling him: "Don’t! Look it doesn’t understand yet what's going on." The man then carries the animal closer to the water and then adds: "We will put it close to the water, so it will understand faster." Finally the turtle goes to the water and swims away. Anastasia Steshina, who also made the video, said: "It was caught by my fisherman friend. When I got the call I immediately rushed to watch and take pics. "I have never seen such a thing before and neither have my friends. We talked to the local fishermen and they think it is not the only one here since, they say, such animals do not live alone. "There are rumours that we harmed the animal. But as can be seen on the video, we did not do anything harmful, just pushed it to the water. It swam away and was not turned into someone's soup." She added: "It wasn’t just scary - it was biting through sticks with its jaws and tried to attack us, awkwardly though because it is a water animal. That said, it can move on the ground and you can see it has claws – and I tell you, they are very big." Locals believe it probably escaped a Chinese breeder further up the river on the north-eastern Chinese side of the border. (ends)
If you are thinking that it is some sort of a made-up creature, then you are definitely wrong. This photo is a real one! After several studies, the dinosaur-like turtle was identified as “alligator snapping turtle” considered as the heaviest freshwater turtle in the planet.
