Real Madrid trolled by media following Champions League defeat
Gazzetta World Staff,GazzettaWorld 3 hours agoZinedine Zidane's outfit were deemed to have drawn one of the easier opponents of the remaining European sides, but their poor performance left Spanish journalists wondering whether they took the task too lightly.
Catalan media took particular glee in rubbing salt into Los Blancos' wounds, ridiculing the capital outfit for their unexpected reverse in Germany.
"Welcome to Wolfsburg," read Thursday's front page of Sport, ironically suggesting the Madrid giants made their Champions League trip without even know who they were facing.
With an
impressive comeback during next week's second leg at Santiago Bernabeu
being Real's only hope, Spanish media AS deems it an unlikely task as
just 17 percent of teams have been able to overturn a 2-0 first-leg
deficit in Champions League history.
"Bad, bad, bad," read the Madrid newspaper's front page. "This Real is like a tango: today a promise, tomorrow a betrayal."
Now facing elimination and currently sitting third in
La Liga, seven points behind leaders Barcelona, Real Madrid could
face the scenario of ending the season without a trophy.
